A Romantic Encounter

I recently returned from a trip to England where I attended a 3-day raw food event hosted by the leading raw food coach in the UK. The event was held in the English countryside at a beautiful castle that has been restored to a Five Star hotel. I was traveling alone which I’ve done many times before, but this time was very different for me. You see, I lost my mother on July 7th, 2012 very suddenly. She was my rock, and she was my best friend.  It’s been one of the most difficult times of my life and as a result of my fragile emotional state I experienced a tremendous homesickness while I was overseas.  There were many tears, and some days I felt incredibly lonely.

One day during one of the breaks, I decided to walk the grounds of the hotel.  I happened upon an old cemetery where the people who had owned the castle were buried.  As I read the tombstones a wave of grief swept over me and I just started to cry. I questioned God as to why He took my mother, why things had to be this way, and how could I ever get through the grief I was feeling. I sensed God’s presence with me, and as I turned the corner I stepped into what was the most incredible rose garden I had ever seen.  Dozens and dozens of rose bushes, all colors, all sizes. It was gorgeous. And it was at that moment I realized I was being romanced. I was being whispered to; I was being shown something powerful.

My mother’s favorite flower was the rose. She had a beautiful rose garden in her yard and she always wanted everyone to see her roses. She would take one of her grandkids by the hand and lead them to her garden to show off her roses. She cut them and placed them in a vase when we were coming for dinner.  She was very, very proud of her rose garden.

That day will forever be etched in my memory because I know beyond any shadow of a doubt that while I don’t understand why my mother had to be taken from me so suddenly, God’s whisper to me that day through leading into that beautiful rose garden was “all is well, trust Me, I love you”.  It was like hearing the doorbell ring and opening the door to dozens and dozens of roses from someone who adores me and wants me to know how much I’m loved.

A final note about this experience:  My emotions were what I call “raw” partly because I was eating a 100% raw food diet for the whole 10 days I was in England.  I had a private retreat with my business coach while I was there as well as the live event so the whole trip was 100% raw food.  As a Christian, I have discovered that in times of fasting, or in times of eating a 100% raw food diet, my spiritual eyes and ears are much clearer.  I also know from experience that when you aren’t using food to numb your emotions, if there are unhealed places in your heart those emotions will definitely surface during times of fasting or of eating a very high raw food diet.  If you have ever fasted before, you know what I’m talking about when I say these things.  If you haven’t ever fasted before, you’re truly missing one of the most powerful spiritual and emotional experiences available to us.

I’m hosting a free online event in a few weeks called “Raw Emotions – A Healing Fast” where I am inviting my readers to join me on a 21 day healing fast.  I will be guiding you through the 21 days with inspiration, tips, and recipes for fresh, raw juices and smoothies through daily emails.  I would encourage you to join me if you know you have places in your own heart that need to be brought into the light and healed.  You can use this opportunity to be fully supported on your own healing journey with me as your coach and guide, and it’s a perfect way to prepare for the holiday season when emotions are heightened due to family drama and the season in general.  If you’re interested in joining me for this transformational journey, just send me an email at ginny@ginnyedwards.com and put Raw Emotions in the Subject line.  I’ll make sure you get signed up!

Sorry to hear about your mom Ginny. We cannot comprehend why God takes loved ones when we are not ready for them to go. May God continue to keep you close to him during this time.
