Healthy eating doesn’t have to be difficult or rocket science. In truth, healthy eating is simply a way of balancing the food you eat to your body healthy and strong. By eating healthy, you’ll have more energy, obtain the vitamins and minerals you need, stay strong for activities you enjoy and maintain a healthy weight for your body. I can’t stress the importance of maintaining a healthy weight for YOUR body. Don’t compare yourself or your body with others. We are ALL made differently and each of us will react differently to foods, vitamins, minerals and physical activity.
There are many tips available on the market, online, on television to help you regain your health. But, honestly it’s truly simple to eat healthy and live a healthier lifestyle. What’s not simple is the dedication and discipline however, it is possible to obtain and it’s up to you!
Here are some Simple Healthy Eating Tips:
Don’t skip any meals
Eating 3 meals with snacks in between is the ideal way to maintain both energy and a healthy weight. When you skip meals and get hungry, you’re more than likely to choose foods that aren’t very good for you. It’s a fallacy to believe that skipping meals will help you lose weight. In fact, your body needs food to function and if you don’t eat enough it will inherently store the food you do eat for the energy needed. It’s important to eat 5-6 small meals a day to ensure you are not depriving your body of the energy it needs to function.
Always keep healthy snacks or food with you, especially if you are traveling or work out of the home. Pack a lunch, carry dried fruit, nuts, pretzels for those times you need a quick fix.
Learn about how to prepare foods
Instead of deep frying, try grilling, stir frying, baking, and even boiling. Before you eat any type of meat, be sure to trim the fat and skin off of it. If you’re a meat eater, be sure to choose lean meats and those that are grass fed, to ensure you are eating non-hormone laden foods. Making your foods at home will ensure you are eating healthier because you are aware of what is in each meal. You should also try fresh or even dried herbs and spices to add flavor to your food instead using only salt. Experiment with different herbs and spices and you’ll be amazed at how easy it is to make your foods taste delicious.
Avoid a lot of sugar
Drinks that contain sugar are a major source of empty energy. What this means, is that the drinks contain a lot of energy that your body may not need, and it doesn’t contain any vitamins or minerals. Avoid process foods since many of those are loaded with sugar and chemicals which your body can’t process correctly. If you must have something sweet, choose fresh fruits, 100% fruit juices, smoothies or treats you can make at home where you can monitor that amount of sugar included.
Avoid thinking about diets
Healthy eating is a lifestyle and NOT a diet. Diets are not long lasting which means they are temporary. When you choose to make a change in your lifestyle then you are ensuring a life long healthy way of living. Diets usually involve elimination and that is where the difficulty begins. It’s truly impossible to eliminate foods, so it’s important to implement moderation instead of elimination. Choosing fresh foods such as fruits and vegetables is a start. Cooking food in your home is another healthy lifestyle change that is important to implement. Treating yourself is not a crime as long as it is done in moderation. Healthy eating, and physical activity is part of a healthy lifestyle that everyone can truly enjoy and sustain. Avoid foods that claim to be low in fat and/or low in sugar. Many times those foods are loaded with lots of other junk that your body can’t process correctly.
As you can tell healthy eating doesn’t have to be difficult. Again, it does require dedication and discipline but with practice it can be done successfully.
