Ways to Prepare For Your First Chiropractic Adjustment

If it’s your first time getting a chiropractic adjustment, it’s normal to feel a little nervous, or maybe even a bit fearful. So before going to a chiropractic services clinic in Salt Lake City or any other clinic of your choice, here are the best ways you can prepare for your first adjustment session:

1. Review your chiropractor’s instructions

Before your first chiropractic adjustment, you would need to have the first session with your chosen chiropractor. During this initial consultation, your chiropractor will likely give you instructions on how to prepare for the adjustment and what to expect during the session. Take the time to review these notes at least a few days before your first session. By knowing what to do and what to expect, you will be more mentally relaxed before and during the appointment.

2. Dress appropriately

During a chiropractic adjustment, the chiropractor will move you around in different positions while laying down on a table. That said, wear appropriate and comfortable clothing that won’t impede your chiropractor’s actions.

For both men and women, a loose and comfortable pants-and-shirt combo works best, especially if they are athletic wear. Avoid tight-fitting clothes, such as skinny jeans, fitted shirts, push-up bras, belts, and suspenders, as these can restrict movement and make the adjustment very uncomfortable on your part.

As for footwear, choose a pair of shoes that are easy to take off since you would have to remove them before the session. Avoid high heels, boots, and dress shoes.

3. Relax

Most people become tense before their first chiropractic adjustment, mostly because they simply don’t know what it’s going to be like. If you’re on the same boat, an excellent way to prepare yourself physically and mentally is by taking the time to relax. Get a good night’s sleep before the day of your appointment. Meditate for a couple of minutes before driving to the clinic. As much as possible, don’t do any strenuous activity during the few days leading up to the session to avoid tensing your muscles.

4. Learn what not to do

During a chiropractic adjustment, a patient needs to be as relaxed as possible while focusing on their breathing. But what about the things that you’re not supposed to do during an adjustment?

Before you go into your session, it’s crucial that you know what not to do on the adjustment table, which includes resisting the movement, tensing up your muscles, or trying to help the doctor by changing your position. If you’re not sure about the “don’ts” during a chiropractic adjustment, it’s best to ask your doctor beforehand.

5. Arrive early

Get to the clinic at least 15 or 30 minutes before your session. Aside from being a professional courtesy, arriving early will help settle down your nerves, especially if it’s your first time.

Undergoing an unfamiliar medical procedure for the first time can be nerve-wracking, especially if it looks (and sounds) painful. Thus, if it’s your first time getting a chiropractic adjustment, these are the best tips to help yourself prepare for it. After the appointment, you could be feeling the best you’ve had in months or maybe even years.
